Over the past few months, we’ve been actively engaging with the Squamish community, local decision-makers, and our supporters to protect affordable housing and keep Mamquam House moving forward.
In mid-December, we met with the mayor and a councillor to discuss the zoning changes that threatened to delay or cancel the project. While the fourth reading for rezoning was originally set for January 7th, it has now been pushed to mid-February at the earliest. This delay gave us a crucial window to finalize all drawings and submit our building permit application—securing Mamquam House under the existing zoning.
While this doesn’t fully resolve the challenge of being rezoned into non-conforming land use, it does buy us valuable time to navigate those complexities in the coming years.
The good news? Our design remains unchanged, and every dollar we’ve invested in planning and development so far will still go toward delivering much-needed affordable housing in Squamish.
This is a win for responsible, community-focused housing—made possible through collective effort. We’re grateful for the support and will continue advocating for solutions that bring more sustainable, affordable homes to our town.
Stay tuned for more updates as we push forward.
